Material conveying uses a conveyance system to move a variety of materials from one place to another. This could be as simple as transporting materials from one end of the belt to the other or as complex as moving substances from one end of the property to a holding facility at the end other.
Choosing Blowers for Material Conveying
Designed for durable and reliable performance, blowers for material conveying come in a number of different types. Some, like single stage regenerative blowers and two stage regenerative blowers, use impellers designed with steel or stainless steel plates. Radial blades are a design feature of both types of blowers.
The primary difference between the two is the amount of pressure or vacuum they emit. Not surprisingly, two stage regenerative blowers deliver more pressure or vacuum than single stage regenerative blowers. They do so because each air molecule is cycled back around the rear of the impeller.
Of course, more pressure or vacuum doesn't necessarily mean better in the case of material conveying. Some materials, such as powders, can be too light for a great deal of pressure and need a single stage regenerative blower instead.
Heavier materials such as coal, sand and grain, might require using high pressure blowers, high velocity fans or volume blowers. This is especially true when moving a great deal of material in a short amount of time.
Materials That can be Conveyed
There is a wide and diverse range of materials that can be conveyed successfully as long as the right fans and/or blowers are used. These include the following:
- wood chips
- pet food
- sawdust
- coal
- sand
- grain
- styrofoam pellets
- paper trim
- paper pellets
Pneumatic Material Handling Basics
Material handling machinery that uses the force of air to operate is referred to as pneumatic equipment. While some of these materials are fine like sand and some powders, there are just as many that are larger and more substantial in nature. These include coal, chips, pellets and similar materials.
Regardless of the size of the material, there are other properties that must be considered before choosing a fan or blower. Substances that are abrasive need special care. In addition, if the material has the possibility of being explosive and/or combustible -- wood dust, paper and flour are just a few examples -- the blower might need to be explosion proof.
Industries That Use Pneumatic Material Conveying
The industries that use pneumatic material conveying range from food processing, mining and agricultural to pharmaceutical and chemicals. The unique needs of the industry and the material it is conveying determine the type of equipment. In some cases, materials that don't need to be screen prior to going through the blower can be moved using less expensive solutions.
Contact Industrial Fans Direct with assistance in designing a material conveying system that meets your company's needed. In addition to the above blowers and fans, we also have man and product cooling fans.
