Will this unit be good to extract gas powered equipment or car fumes with a hose through a garage door?

This type of fan will be good for this application. Whether or not it is enough CFM, we can not say. It is typically better to go with a little more CFM than what you think. You can always dial the CFM back a bit with the option variable speed control if it is too much CFM.
