Tank aeration is often accomplished with either single stage regenerative blowers or two stage regenerative blowers as a method of injecting then moving air through fluids and/or solids. Because of their changing environmental conditions, there are a variety of materials that need to be aerated.
Tank Aeration Applications
Tank aeration spans a range of diverse applications including -- but not limited to -- the following:
- Wastewater Treatment Plants
Whether single stage regenerative blowers or two stage regenerative blowers are used in wastewater treatment plants, they comprise more than 50 percent of the energy used by a typical facility. Because of this, their design and energy efficiency is of great interest to those who design and supply these end users.
Because of their complexity, wastewater treatment applications for municipalities require tank aeration that efficiently accelerates the pollutant metabolism. In doing so, the impact on the water that receives the sewage is reduced. It also helps protect aquatic life from being destroyed because of a depletion of oxygen levels.
- Pond Aeration
Unless they are properly aerated ponds, lakes and other sources of water can become stagnant and overrun with scum. In order to guard against this, air is introduced via aerators that have a certain needed level of efficiency. The biological oxygen demand (BOD) is the determining factor when it comes to the number and size of the aerators that are needed.
Another crucial element that must be considered is the solar heating that the body of water is exposed to. This must be accounted for when designing a system of tank aeration.
- Water Treatment
Water treatment applications include those used in commercial sized aquariums as well as fish farming. Both require a continuous supply of oxygen via fresh air to be injected into the water. In some cases, a network of blowers, pipes, valves and hoses is required.
Advantages of Using Regenerative Blowers
Because the above applications rely on having a consistent and efficient source of oxygen continuously, a reliable mechanism crucial. A regenerative blower contains a single moving part -- the impeller. This impeller touches nothing but air so it never needs to be lubricated. It also contains no seals that have to be replaced. There is little monitoring or maintenance that this type of equipment requires. It is also highly efficient and inexpensive to operate.
A regenerative blower is quiet and produces little vibration or noise. This makes it the ideal solution for use with pond aeration applications as well as aquaculture. In most cases, shallow ponds are usually the ideal applications for a regenerative blower. However, there are blowers that are rated for various depths to meet specific needs.
Industrial Fans Direct specializes in a variety of fans. In fact, fans are all that we do which is how we've become known as The Air Movement Specialists.
