Indoor air quality in hospitals is paramount in order to protect against the spread of communicable diseases. Air Quality Hazards in Hospitals

Hospitals are unique in their air quality needs because different areas and rooms need different types of ventilation. Most of the ventilation requirements are controlled by the hospitals complex HVAC system. However, additional ventilation devices are often needed in order to meet some of the regulations and keep doctors, nurses, patients, maintenance men and visitors comfortable while removing harmful bacteria, viruses and other pathogens.

For example, a hospital wouldn’t want virus and bacteria contaminated air to flow through the building, potentially infecting other occupants. In order to limit the travel of certain air contaminants, roof exhaust fans are often used to vent stale, polluted air and limit the movement of airborne pathogens.

A certain number of air exchanges must also occur in order to prevent virus and bacteria contaminated air from staying in the building. For example, a surgical suite must have at least 25 air exchanges per hour. Clean rooms may need even more air exchanges, depending on whether they are in-use, at-rest or as-built.

Evaporative Cooling Fans

Evaporative cooling fans are great for non-medical areas that need a little more cooling, like administrative offices, equipment rooms with workstations and unique areas, like gift shops, the in-hospital pharmacy and other staff offices and rooms. Our ample line of evaporative and swamp coolers have CFMs of between 501 and 40,000.

Inline Duct Exhaust Fans

Hospitals often place their mechanical ventilation equipment near the ceilings on walls or in the ceiling via the air ducts. This is to help control dust and the airflow of particles, like viruses and bacteria. In order to achieve a certain amount of air exchanges in a specific room or area of the hospital, additional inline duct fans may be needed in order to vent stale air and allow additional fresh air into the space. Our square inline duct fans can be purchased in CFMs ranging from less than 500 to more than 14,000. This type of duct inline exhaust fan can be utilized where space is limited.

Roof Supply and Exhaust Fans

Rooftop mounted fans also help limit the movement of contaminated, hot, stuffy and stale indoor air while increasing the amount of fresh air that’s allowed into certain areas of the building. This helps improve indoor air quality and lowers the risk of spreading infections. We have upblast and downblast roof exhaust fans, including downblast axial roof exhaust fans, with CFMs of less than 500 to 40,000, and aluminum roof supply fans with CFMs between 501 and 5,000.

Ventilator Fans
